Victoria Harbor

As the largest harbour in Asia and the third largest in the world, Victoria Harbour owns the reputation of the ‘Oriental pearl’ for its deep water and extravagant port.
Landed between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, Victoria Harbour is the largest natural harbour in Asia, and the third largest in the world, which follows behind San Francisco om United States and Rio DE janeiro. The harbour was originally called Hong Kong Harbour before the establishment of the British colony in 1840s, and then it was renamed as Victoria Harbour by Queen Victoria. With deep water, extravagant port and its strategic location, Hong Kong was established as a British colony and developed into a trading center subsequently. As such an important port, Victoria Harbour plays an important role in leading the development of the economy and tourism and influencing the history and culture in Hong Kong.
Geography
Victoria Harbour area was the outspread part of the mainland mountains thousands of years ago. Later, because of mountain fault and seawater invasion, Hong Kong Island and Kowloon were separated and Victoria Harbour was formulated. With the unique condition, colossal ship can berth here. And with three main access channels, Victoria Harbour is the gateway to Hong Kong. Victoria Harbour equipped with more than one natural and artificial harbor and typhoon shelters for the boats to avoid attacks by the waves. In addition, the climate here is warm and without icing period all the world. All of these make Victoria Harbour a good port. Now it plays an important role in China’s foreign trade and for Hong Kong's tourism.
Culture
Many cultural and sports events are held perennial on both sides of Victoria Harbour, such as swimming across the harbour, World Invitational Dragon Boat Race and Sailing Race, etc. The world class fireworks displays are also hosted here during Chinese New Year, National day, and other important days.

Skyline
Victoria Harbour is featured for its skyline. With the tallest skyline in the world and four of the twenty tallest buildings in the world all around the harbour, it is the best place to view the world’s most beautiful skylines with a backdrop of Victoria Peak.
Star Ferry
The best way to visit Victoria Harbour is to take Star Ferry. The ferry is cheap and convenient. It takes only about 10 minutes to travel across the harbour. The ferry has two decks. The bottom deck is cheaper, and it allows you mire freedom to walk around the edge of the deck and is better for photography, while the vies over the harbour and onto the skyline are far better than the lower deck. The night-time trip shows you Victoria Harbour at its best.
Avenue of Stars
Modeled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Avenue of Stars is located along the Victoria Harbour waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. It is built to honor the celebrities of the Hong Kong film industry. Apart from the promenade and New World Centre, there exist a number of attractions including the Museum of Art, Space Museum, Cultural Centre and the Clock Tower.
