Guiyang food is mainly composed of Qian Cuisine, minority dishes and various local snacks. Specializing in hot and spicy flavor, each course of Guiyang dish makes use of red chilies or salty dries chili powders which endow the Guiyang food coveted delicacies.

Gong Bao Chicken is one of the most popular dishes among Qian Cuisine which appears red but not hot, tastes spicy but not fierce. The most common and delicious variety available in Guiyang is the Miao ethnic group’s Suan Tang Yu, a hot pot centered around a hot and spicy broth with a large whole fish chopped up inside. Guiyang is spotted with hundreds of different snacks including Silk Babies (Si Wa Wa), Beef Noodles (Niu Rou Fen), Crispy Fried Duck, Changwang Noddles, Tile Ear Cake and so on.

Si Wa Wa (Sliced Vegetable Baby) could well be the cheapest snack in Guiyang. It literarily means the Baby because it takes the shape of a baby in swaddling clothes. Actually it is a thin cake made of flour and stuffed with various sliced cooked vegetables such as the carrot, radish, celeries and other vegetables. As one of the popular snacks in Guiyang, love bean curd is a small piece of bean curd roasted on an oiled iron sheet or wire mesh over chaff fire.
