In Chinese, Sun is "Tai Yang". The island is so called because it is rich in a kind of Fang fish which has the similar pronunciation of Tan Yang in Manzhou language.

Located at the north bank of Songhua River in downtown of Harbin, facing Stalin Park to the south east, Sun Island Park is a well-known summer resort and a precious stone in Harbin. Covering an area of 38 square kilometers, the park consists of one big island and some smaller islands. Accompanied by the attractive landscapes and charming natural scenery, it has become an ideal place for people to relax and play.

In Chinese, Sun is "Tai Yang". The island is so called because it is rich in a kind of Fang fish which has the similar pronunciation of Tan Yang in Manzhou language. The park was ruled by foreign colonies before 1949, so many exotic buildings still exist.

The park is composed of over 20 scenic spots, including Shuige Yuntian (water pavilion and loud sky), Sun Mountain, Swan Lake, Lotus Lake, sun stone, children's park, waterside pavilion and so on.

Main Attractions

Shuige Yuntian (Water Pavilion and Cloud Sky)

Known as a park within the park, the area takes an area of 1515 square meters. There are long corridors, square building, Sun Lake, and weeping willow along the bank, combining modern garden landscape and European style buildings. Standing on the platform of the building, you can appreciate the landscapes of the island from different angles.

Sun Stone

Sun Stone is a huge stone with three Chinese characters “Tai Yang Shi” standing in front of the main gate of Sun Island Park. It takes a weight of 150 tons with 7.5 meters long, two meters wide and 4.3 meters high. It is said that the stone is an elixir that falls from the blast furnace of the very high lord, the earliest ancestor of Taoism.

Squirrel Island

With more than 2000 squirrels, the island is the largest base for sightseeing, training and researching squirrels in Heilongjiang Province. The Squirrel Island covers an area of 24,000 square meters, consisting of three small islands and linking by wooden trestles. It provides ideal living environment for squirrels.

Ice Art Museum

Built in 2000 with an area of 5,000 square meters, it is the largest indoor ice art museum in the world. More than 100 ice artworks display in the museum. The museum occupies five parts, including ancient carving art, gardening art, local custom, the Dragon King's palace and foreign landscapes. Visitors in the museum can appreciate Dunhuang frescoes, the Longmen Grottoes, the Great Wall, Grand Palace of Thailand and so on. In 2007, more 33 ice sculptures of Harbin’s landmarks covering Central Street, Jile Temple and Church of St. Nicholas are added in the museum.

Small Town of Russia

Located at the south part of the scenic area of Sun Island, the Small Town of Russia neighbors Songhua River and faces Central Street and Stalin Park. It is a small town that built with Russian style with 27 unique houses. Traveling here, visitors can enjoy themselves in a different cultural as if visiting Russia. Apart from houses and villas, there are also squares, sculptures, western restaurants.

Every winter, Harbin International Snow Sculpture Art Expo is held in Sun Island Park. Along with Ice & Snow World and Harbin ice-lantern show, it has become one of the three top attractions in Harbin during winter. Visitors can enjoy themselves in snow activities and appreciate marvelous ice-lanterns.
