Nanshan Pasture is located on Kelawucheng Mountain, a branch of north of Tianshan Mountain. It has a fascinating natural scene with snow peaks and forests around.

Nanshan refers to West Baiyanggou in Urumqi. It is “China Pasture’s No.1” in terms of five aspects, and they are establishment time, national support level, development of pasture animal husbandry, the area of cultivated grassland and industrialization pattern. The total area of Nanshan Pasture is 120 square kilometers, with an average altitude about 1, 760 meters, and it has natural hill covered with grass of about 153 million square meters. It is like a dark green emerald imbedding on the high mountain ridges.

Main Scenic Spots

The west to east panorama of the pasture includes these sight spots: West Baiyanggou, Juhuatai, East Baiyanggou, Mount Zhaobi, Miaoergou and Daxigou etc.

West Baiyanggou is a famous summer resort, and also known for its densely covered poplars. It is the north part of Tianshan Mountains. The source of West Baiyanggou is cliff waterfall formed 2 million years ago, with its height of 70 meters.

East Baiyanggou is known for its towering ancient poplar trees. There are peaks around, towering ancient poplar trees and green forests.

Juhuatai is famous for golden chrysanthemum in a large acreage, which is a typical Kazakh pasture area tourism.

Silk Road Ecological Garden gathers mountains and forests, meadows and open lands. In winter, this is a modern public ski field. You can enjoy yourself in the ice and snow world. This is a gift of nature.

Tianshan International Ski Field is a high mountain ski field. Its altitude is 2,000-2,700 meters, and the landform is more complicated, so it is only for experienced skiers.

Pleasant Climate

Nanshan Pasture has existed since ancient times. On the whole, the climate here is quite pleasant, neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter. Nanshan Pasture covers kinds of natural sceneries like prairie, mountainous regions, forests and waterfalls etc. It is publicly recognized as the summer resort and natural oxygen bar.

Local Custom

Nanshan Pasture is a best place for local Kazakh people to spend their summers, and tourists can take a horseback tour with a Kazakh guide, climb the mountains or stay in a traditional yurt. The most interesting experience for tourists here is to visit the local herdsman's families of Kazakh nationality. In summer, you can appreciate goshawk hovering in the sky, and Kazakh custom performance such as horse-racing, scrambling for a sheep and hunting girls etc. You can relax from the noisy urban as much as you like.
