Nanjing Transportation

Nanjing is the transportation hub of eastern China. Nanjing Lukou International Airport operates flights from major cities in China and abroad while the trains and long-distance buses connect Nanjing to anywhere in the country. Subways, city buses and ferry take tourists to any destination and attractions in the city and taxi is also very convenient.
 

It is very convenient to take a taxi in Nanjing. The flag fall is CNY9 for the first three kilometers, and CNY2.4 for each an additional kilometer, and CNY2.7 for each an additional kilometer at night. There is CNY2 gas surcharge on all trips.

Get in

Nanjing Lukou International Airport is about 36 km south from downtown Nanjing city. It is the second largest international airport in Eastern China. As the only international airport in Jiangsu Province, it has two terminals, and the T2 predicted to be completed in 2013.

The airport have about 130 flight routes to 54 domestic cities in China and 20 international cities and 3 regional cities, such as Beijing, Guangzhou, Changchun, Chengdu, Changsha, Shanghai, Guilin, Kunming, Sanya, Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo, Chicago, Puji Island Inchon, Seoul and Frankfurt.

There are two airport shuttle lines running between the airport and the city center. The line1 starts from Zhonghuamen Long-distance Bus Station to Airport, and the line2 starts East Square of Nanjing Railway Station to Airport, and it takes an hour. The charge of two lines is CNY20. The cost of taxi to city center is more or less CNY100.

Get around

The public bus net in Nanjing extends the entire city. There are city tram and city bus with nearly 100 lines, and they are all self-service ticketing. The common bus is charged CNY1 and CNY2 for air-conditioned bus. Besides, there are tourist bus lines to main attractions around Nanjing.

Get in

Nanjing is one of the largest highway transportation hubs in the east of China. There are 9 long-distance bus stations offering buses linking Nanjing with many cities in China. You can go to wherever you want to travel starting from these stations. However, it is more expensive than train.

Get in - Train

Nanjing Railway Station is located in the north of Nanjing City. It has 6 railway stations which connect Nanjing with most cities in China. Visitor can get here through many ways, like city bus, metro and taxi. There are trains to cities in China such as Changchun, Chengdu, Fuzhou, Xi’an, Taiyuan, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Harbin, Qiqihar, Yinchuan, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Urumqi and Lhasa and so on.

Get around - Subway

The Nanjing Subway, clearly marked in English for travelers, has become the most convenient way to get around the city. At present, there are 2 subway lines and their extending lines in operation. The fare is CNY2, 3 and 4 according to different distance, and the passengers take subway with transportation card has 95% discount, and the student card has 50 % discount. The subway lines start from 6:00 to 23:00.

Nanjing is the largest inland waterway port in the Yangtze River waterway, so there are Yangtze River passenger liners running between Chongqing, Hankou, Nanjing and Shanghai. Now, there are 7 ferry lines in Nanjing city, and the ticket is CNY1 - 3.
