Located on the northwest of Jingdezhen city, Ancient Sanlu Temple Street is one of the well preserved ancient streets in Jingdezhen and a famous historical cultural block.

Situated at the west bank of Changhe River, Jingdezhen City, Ancient Sanlu Temple Street was built to memorize the famous poet Qu Yuan in Chu State in warring-states period (475BC-221BC). It used to be the wharf of Jingdezhen in Ming (1368-1644) and Qing dynasties (1644-1912) to transport the porcelain raw materials and daily necessities. As a famous historical cultural block, Ancient Sanlu Temple Street consists of three parts, the Ming Street, the Qing Street and the old pier.

Ming Street

With a length of 8407 meters and a width of 4.5 meters, Ming Street was built during Emperor Jiajing period (1522-1566) in Ming Dynasty. It has a history of more than 500 years. The whole street is paved with blue bricks and shaped like a turtle shell. The whole street is not preserved so well as Qing Street.

Qing Street

Built in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), Qing Street is much longer than the Ming Street. It is 231 meters long and 3 meters wide. The whole street was paved with long stone blocks and long blue flagstones. It was a very prosperous commercial street during the Qing Dynasty and all kinds of shops lied along the two sides of the street. After the renovation in 1998, many modern architecture were built in this old street. Thus, this ancient city reveals a modern breath.

Old Pier

Old Pier is made of blue stones. In order to meet the different water level requirements, it was built all together three layers scientifically. The famous Sanlu Temple, which was established to memorize the famous poet Qu Yuan is located here.

There are several well preserved residences in this ancient street, most of which were built during the middle period of Ming Dynasty and the early period of Qing Dynasty. The most famous is the No. 3 residence of Liujianong alley. From the unique layout to the fine carve, we can see the intelligence and the exquisite craftsmanship of the ancient craftsman. All these old residence have a great value in the study of the ancient architecture.
