Reputed as a magnificent natural art gallery, Silver Cave is the representative of the karst landform where gathers a range of stalactites sprouted in different geologic ages.
Silver Cave is situated in a small town 3 kilometers from Yangshuo County. Rated as the karst cave wonder of the world, the Silver Cave is not only famous for its breath-taking limestone landscapes in the cave but also the natural sceneries outside of the cave. The pointed jade-like hills, scattering peach trees, flaming wide flowers and low cottages make it a perfect Arcadia.
Origin of Name
Penetrating beneath 12 hills, the Silver Cave belongs to storied cave with a great number of stalactites, stalagmites and stone pillars which is as shiny as the silver in the darkness for they are clear as crystal, hence the name Silver Cave.
What to See
The Silver Cave is composed of three parts: the lower cave, the grand hall and the upper cave, in which have grown all kinds of stalactites. There are more than ten characteristic scenic spots including the Screen of Music, the Jasper Lace Fairyland and the Flying Waterfalls on Snow Hill which are recognized as the examples of matchless spots, alongside with the three treasures of the Buddha Discussing on Buddhist Sutra, the Mixed Pearl Umbrella and the Solitary Pillar Propping up the Sky, they are lifelike and vivid to take breath away.
Full of Green
The scenic area of Silver Cave is full of green. The mountain is green, so are the water, ground, trees and fields. Thus, it has been praised as the representative of the Guilin landscapes.
Three Treasures
Buddha Discussing on Buddhist Sutra
Been a stalactite in shape of sitting Buddha with his legs crossed, it is too vivid to make anyone believe it should be a natural formation. It also has been win many worshipers from all directions.
Mixed Pearl Umbrella
It is said that this magic umbrella is endowed with the capability to control the forces of nature, including the ability of suppressing the monsters. Standing in the cave, it has been rated as the treasure of the cave. In fact, the peculiar modeling of the scenic spot is still a myth.
Solitary Pillar Propping up the Sky
At the scape of the pillar branches out many twigs which make the whole modeling a combination of zigzagging exquisiteness and upright splendor. It is really a wonder made by nature.
Legend
Legend has it that a general of Price Pingxi entrenched here during the reign of Emperor Kangxi in Qing Dynasty (1616-1912) whose rebel army failed successively. For the large number of gold, silver and jewelry can hardly be brought away, they had no choice but hide these secretly in the cave.
