Songzhuang Art Community is an art institutions funded by businessmen, which is committed to show the Chinese contemporary art exhibitions and carry out the academic exchange.

As an art institution funded by businessmen, Songzhuang Art Community in the east of Beijing has around 500 artists organizes two large-scale exhibitions in spring and autumn and undertakes the exchange exhibitions between Chinese and foreign artists, which provides a creative, academic exchange platform for the artists and enhances the art atmosphere. Brief Introduction

Located in Guanxinzhuang Songzhuang Town, Tongzhou District, Beijing City, Songzhuang Art Community is changed from the Songzhuang Cooperation. Covering an area of more than 2000 square meters, the exhibition area is more than 400 square meters and the artist’s studio still stands here, which was open to the public in 2003.

Songzhuang Art Community is committed to show Chinese contemporary art exhibitions and carry out the academic exchanges. Besides, it also cooperates with the famous foreign cultural institutions, making efforts to promote the development of Chinese contemporary art.

How it forms

In 1995, the Old Summer Palace artist community was dismantled so that some of the artists moved to Songzhuang village. The quiet environment, lower rent and larger studio space attracted them.

With the development and the growth of Chinese art market, Songzhuang has undergone a great expansion of its artist community. Today, nearly 4000 artists, including painters, sculptures, poets, writers, calligraphers, art critics, photographers and so on call Songzhuang and the surrounding villages home. The artists are relatively young and are famous for their contemporary and innovative artwork. Most of the artists are freelancer, and their artwork is shown in China as well as Europe and the United States.
