The world's largest inland aquarium, Beijing Aquarium is part of Beijing Zoo. It is an ideal place to appreciate a wide range of fish species and watch shows performed by dolphins and sea lions.
Located on the north bank of Chang River in Beijing Zoo, Beijing Aquarium is like a big blue conch lying in the green trees and beautiful flowers. Occupying an area of 120,000 square meters, it is the largest inland aquarium in the world housing more than 1,000 marine species and freshwater fish. Besides appreciate the wide range of fish species, visitors can also watch shows performed by dolphins and sea lions.
The Aquarium is composed of seven parts namely Rainforest Adventure, Tidal Encounter, Seabed Travel, Shark Wharf, Rare Chinese Sturgeon Hall, Whale and Globefish Hall, and Marine Mammal Pavilion. Trough the various activities, the aquarium introduces the knowledge about marine life and improve people’s consciousness to protect the marine and earth.
Visiting Guide
Rainforest Adventure is a manmade Amazon rainforest with winding path, waterfall, bridges and mysterious sculptures. Twenty-two tanks in different sizes houses more than 100 species of freshwater fish such as sea elephants, cheirodco axclrodi, blood red parrot fish, anchor fish and Chinese giant salamander. Tidal Encounter with a 36-meter-long imitated beach enables visitors to touch softly the “friends” from the sea.
Seabed Travel is a blue world with a spiral ramp. Walking in the tunnel, visitors can see beautiful marine fishes above them. The 33 tanks house the ornamental fishes representing oceans from all over the world, including Jewel Cichlids and Nautiluses. At Shark Wharf, visitors can watch sharks as well as take part in activities like diving, feeding and dancing with the sharks.
Rare Chinese Sturgeon Hall, as the name suggests, is on exhibition about Chinese surgeon. Whale and Globefish Hall is the world for dolphins and sea lions and at the huge indoor theater, Marine Mammal Pavilion, tourists can enjoy lovely performances by them.
Performances
At Marine Mammal Pavilion, visitors can watch Ocean Animal Performance at 11:00 and 15:00 from Monday to Friday and at 11:00, 14:00, 16:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Water Ballet are performed at 10:30 and 14:30 from Tuesday to Friday while on weekend, the performance is at 10:30 and 13:30.
First floor of the Seabed Travel has Sea Diving and Feeding Performance at 10:00 and 13:30 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday while on weekend, the performance is at 10:00 and 15:00. On the second floor, Sea Snail Feeding Performance is on show at 10:00 from Monday to Sunday.
Rainforest Adventure has Archerfish Feeding Performance on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 09:30 and 14:30 while on Saturday and Sunday, the performance is at 09:30 and 15:00. Shark Feeding Performance can be seen at Shark Hall at 14:30 on Monday and 15:45 on Wednesday and Friday.
