798 Art Zone has become the pronoun of modern art in China. It is a world famous cultural and creative industries centralized area often compared with New York's Greenwich Village or SoHo.
When Beijing is mentioned, the first impression people has is it ancient classics and that’s why they come for a Beijing Tour. They visited all the historical places and thought they have seen it all. It’s wrong! Don’t leave without dropping by to one of the most impressive and trendy artist communities in the world, "798 Art Zone".
Located in the northeast corner of Beijing city, 798 Art Zoo is also known as Dashanzi Art District. Originally, the area was the former site of Joint Factory 798, a 50-year old military factory with unique architectural style aided and built by the Soviet Union. In 2002, some artists moved here and set their studios in the factory building. Since then, more and more artists gathered here and today, modern art comes first when people mentioned about 798. Many cultural organizations have settled down at here. Art exhibitions with different themes are held in the zone everyday.
Interesting Art Galleries
Impression on Hundred Years (China) display different types of photos and most of them are developed by the boss Chen Guangjun himself.
798 Space offers rental for press conference and fashion shows as well as other exhibitions. The roofs of the buildings are curved serrated which is Bauhaus style designed by a German 50 years ago. This kind of building is rare even in Germany.
Long March Cultural Communication Center records the activities the artist Lu Jie organized along the routes of Long March and communicating with the local artists. The folk art exhibition here is very interesting and visitors can see many paper cuts made by Gao Fenglian, a folk artist from Shaanxi Province.
799 Art Space directly by a Taiwanese in America mainly display Chinese Zen culture through lectures, exhibitions and even private dishes.
ART SEASONS is the largest professional gallery in 798 Art Zone. They even open a window for the swallow living on the roof. Sometime, it releases art film from Europe which can not been seen from any where else in Beijing.
Famous Bars and Restaurants
Lord of Salt (NO.6 Sichuan Food Studio) is known for its authentic Sichuan dishes. The boss themselves are poet and almost every dish has a story or poem.
At Café is opened by Huang Rui, who directed the first Dashanzi International Art Festival. The café is features with authentic Italian coffee and the owner believes that his coffee is much better than Starbucks. Pizza and sandwiches are also good choices.
VINCENT CAFÉ is the most worthwhile visited French café in the zone. The French pancakes are very authentic and you can choose to put meat and vegetable or ice cream and fruit. A drink named SHOOTER made by the boss is very tasty. The boss Vincent said: “We have only one life and must live it happily every day.”
Acoustic House is more like a pastoral style home operated by a famous Chinese musician. The dishes here are collected by the boss from all over the world.
In addition to the galleries and bars, 798 Art Zone also have many trendy shops. For example, CHINA specializing in Chinese china combines the art and daily use perfectly. People can buy ornate tableware, tea and sets as well as china craftworks at here. Graffiti and sculptures in the zone are very eye-catching.
798 Art Festival
Every year in late September, 798 Art Festival is held to display the features and charm of the zone as well as promote the cultural and art communication between different countries. There are so many arts in 798 Art Zone that you have to pay a visit to experience and fell by yourself.
