The predecessor of Huangshan City is Huizhou, known as Xin'an in ancient China. Located in southernmost part of Anhui Province, it is a newly-rising tourist city named after Mt. Huangshan (Yellow Mountains), consisting of the Mt. Huangshan Scenic Area, three districts, and four counties. Covering an area of 9,807 square kilometers, Huangshan City has a total population of 1.36 million.
