Transportation
By plane: There is no airport in Kaili. Luckily there are buses from Liping airport to Kaili.
By train: The trains from Shanghai and Beijing to Kunming and Guiyang stop at Kaili Railway Station. (Tips: you’d better buy tickets at the train ticket booth which is near the Bank of China in city center.)
By bus: There are buses here to Rongjiang and Liping.
By taxis : The flag-fall rate is 5Yuan in the daytime, 6 Yuan in the evening.
Weather
The rainfall here is of abundance. It is one of the reasons why the weather here is so cool in midsummer. A local proverb says, it must rain every three days. Especially for Kaili, almost half a year is in rain season. Therefore, umbrella or raincoat is the necessity for visitors. Besides, Mosquito repellent is advised to be taken for those who prefer staying in the Stockade Village (zhaizi). The best traveling in Kaili is in August.
Food and Restaurants
Kaili is the home to have acid food. People here are in favor of this flavor. Suantangyu (Sour Broth Fish) is the most outstanding specialty. Head over to the snack street (xiaochijie) and eat your way up and down the street in Kaili. The vendors here sell all kinds of local delicacies. The street is only open in the evenings, so you will have something to do here. Spending 15 RMB for a meal on experiencing the life in the Miao Zhai is a memorable thing.
