Haikou Transportation
Haikou is a transport hub that not only connects Hainan to other parts of China but also other major international cities in Asia. There is an airport, a railway system, and a port that further facilitates getting there and away. In the city center it is possible to get around quickly and easily using both taxis and buses. Another great option is to take a leisurely stroll to enjoy the tropical weather and lively street life.

The base rate for taxis is 10 RMB for the first three kilometers and then 1.8 RMB per additional kilometer (2 RMB per additional kilometer for some relatively new-style taxis).
Get in
Haikou Meilan Airport is located in Meilan Town of Qiongshan City, about 25 km from Haikou. There are domestic flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Harbin, Chengdu, Hong Kong and Macau etc. and international flights to Bangkok and Singapore as well. It only takes you about 30 minutes' drive from the airport to downtown Haikou.
To take airport shuttle bus, you will have to go to Minhang Hotel at Minxiu Lu. Starting from 6:00am, there will be shuttle bus going to the airport every 20 minutes. Price is CNY20 per person.

Get around
There are special tour buses running among the main scenic spots of Haikou. Line A and Line B of the relatively new tour buses named "Xin Mei Lan" can take you to scenic spots like QiongTai Academy, Wugong Temple, Former Residence of Hairui, Wanlu Park, Hairui Park and Xiuying Ancient Emplacement etc.
Long Distance Bus
From Haikou Inter-Province Station, there are buses going to Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shantou, Liuzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing, Wuning, Wuzhou, Fuzhou, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Yulin, Yueyang, Zhengzhou, Zhuhai, Zhangzhou, Dongguang and Changde.
Apart from the main station, there are three other bus stations wish buses going to different directions. South Station has a lot of buses going to Wnchang, Qionghai, Wanning, Lingshui, Xinglong and Sanya. West Station has buses going to Zhanzhou, Dongfang and Wuzhishan.
The main station mainly operates buses going to other provinces and other stations run buses within Hainan.
Get in
Haikou Railway Station is located nearby the seaside, about 20 km from downtown. Trains running between Sanya and Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing all take a stopover at Haikou.
Notice: If you take a train on Guangzhou - Hainan railway, the train will only drop you off at Leizhou Peninsular, then you will have to take a shit to Haikou from there.
Get around
There are New Harbor (Xingang) and Xiuying Harbor two ferry terminals in Haikou with more than 40 passenger ferries to the cities along the seaside of the Chinese mainland as well as to Hong Kong daily. New Harbor has both passenger and car ferries mainly from and to Zhanjiang Harbor and Haian Harbor while Xiuying Harbor has ferries from and to Guangzhou, Zhanjiang, Haian, Shekou, Beihai and Hong Kong.
Get around
At Xiuying Pier, there are ships going to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beihai, Zhanjiang and Haian, and sometimes ship to Hong Kong is also available. Every day there is one ship to Guangzhou and one to Beihai, 3 - 4 to Zhanjiang. The one to Haian is once every hour.
