Yangdi Village, arguably the most beautiful section of the Li River, is the best place for appreciating the misty rain, also the starting point of the cruise along Li River.

Belongs to the typical karst lava landform, Yangdi Village owns groups of hills with winding river passing through. It is located in the north of Yangshuo County, about 50 kilometers from Guilin. Villagers make livings by farming. Far from the noisy city, Yangdi Village is a non-polluted zone for sightseeing.

What to see

Yangdi Village features natural sceneries. The endless towering cliffs, winding water, bamboo groves and flying waterfalls are enough to compose a picturesque painting. The main scenic spots in the village include Golden Rooster Hill, Gold Hill, Mandarin Duck Beach and Moonlight Island.

Golden Rooster Hill

Located in the north of Yangdi Village, it resembles a pecking rooster. Corresponding to the waterfalls in the east of village, they form a saying of “golden rooster is pecking rice.”

Gold Hill

Not far behind the village perches a mountain made up from four cliffs. It is the Gold Hill which is said villagers are able to pick gold in all seasons. If you are curious whether there exists gold, have a visit here. Good luck hits.

Moonlight Island

Cruising down the Li River, there is a small island with an area of more than 200 acres. Seen from a high level, this island is more like a moon of August reflected in the Li River. Abundant in trees, it is evergreen in any seasons.

There is neither rows of poplars nor tender willow trees in the village, why it is named Yangdi? It is because of the two mountains along the river. Legend has it that a heaven goat came to earth furtively. It decided to stay here when it stepped on this charming land at the first second. Several months later, the Jade Emperor knew its deed and angered to order it back to heaven. However, the goat was unwilling to return. At last, the emperor dispatched troops to bring it back. During the fighting, the goat tried to run away. Before it hided, it was turned into part of the landscape with two of its hoofs being seen in the shape of two peaks. Owing to the same pronunciation, people prefer call it Yangdi.
