Kunming Transportation

As the capital of Yunnan, Kunming is the transport hub in the province which is easy to be accessed. Rail and air are the main two methods to travel to or from Kunming and the city is well served by numerous taxis and city buses. It is convenient to go to the many attractions in Yunnan from Kunming. Bicycle is a good way to enjoy the city scenery.

It is very convenient to take a taxi in Kunming. The flag-fall is CNY8 for the first three kilometers and CNY1.8 for every kilometer thereafter. After 22:00, the flag-down increases to CNY10 and CNY2.7 for every subsequent kilometer.

Kunming Changshui International Airport is 22 km east of the city center. The airport operates flights to many cities in China such as Lijiang, Jinghong, Beijing, Chengdu, Guilin, Lhasa, Shanghai, Sanya and Xian as well as international destinations like Taoyuan, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Hanoi, Dacca, Phnom Penh, Osaka, Singapore, Calcutta, Rangoon, Mandalay, Vientiane and Bangkok.
 

 How to get to the Airport


By Metro: The airport is the terminus of Line 6 of the Kunming Metro which runs between Changshui Airport and East Bus Station from 09:00 to 19:10 with an interval of 25 minutes. The ticket fare is CNY5 and the journey takes 23 minutes.

By Airport Shuttle Bus: The service from downtown area to the airport is available between 05:00-22:00 half hourly and can be taken at East Bus Station, Telecom International Hotel, Kunming Railway Station and Kunming Expo Garden, etc. The journey takes about an hour. The shuttle bus from the airport to the downtown area operates between 09:00-24:00.

By Taxi: A taxi from the airport to downtown Kunming costs about CNY80-100.

Kunming has developed long-distance bus transportation. There are buses to Beijing, Lanzhou, Shanghai, Fuzhou and other cities in China as well as buses to cities in Yunnan Province like Dali, Lijiang and Shangri-La. International departures to Laos and Vietnam are also available in Kunming.
 

 Get Around


Kunming has over 100 bus routes cover almost every corner of the city. The ticket fare is CNY1 per person and most buses run from 6:00am to 10:00pm with a 3 to 8 minutes interval.

Bus No.1 can take you to Kunming Museum, No.3 and No.24 pass Kunming Railway Station, No.4 and No100 run to Grand View Tower and No.6 to Western Hills

Kunming Railway Station at the southern end of Beijing Xi Lu serves trains to cities in other provinces of China such as Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Guilin, Guiyang, Nanning, and Shanghai. Bus No.3 and No.24 can take you there.

Kunming North Railway Station three kilometers north of the city center operates trains to Vietnam and cities to the southeast of Kunming. Bus No.23 can take you to the station.
 

 Metro


Kunming Metro is under construction and the Line 6 between Changshui Airport and East Bus Station has been in use.  

Bicycles can be rented at some hostels for about ¥20 a day such as Kunhu Hostel and Chahua Hostel. Lake Dianchi in the city provides bicycle rental as a public service, making a travel around the lake and city much more convenient.
