The Venues of Beijing Olympic are spectacular since China spent billions on the infrastructure. Today, some are opened to public and used for big events while others have been deserted or demolished.

Generally speaking, there are four kinds of venues for Beijing Olympic, New Venues, Existing Venues, Temporary Venues and Non-Competition Venues. After the 2008 Games, some new constructed venues are opened to the public while others have been deserted or demolished.

New Venues

National Stadium or Bird’s Nest, is in Olympic Green, built for the competitions of Athletics, Football as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. After the game, it is open to the public for visit or big events.

National Aquatics Center or Water Cube is in Olympic Green, built for Swimming, Diving and Synchronized Swimming. After the game, it is also open to the public for visit, swimming as well as international events.

National Indoor Stadium in Olympic Green was for Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline and Handball. After the game, it becomes a public activity center for people in Beijing and functioned to hold international and domestic professional or commercial sports event as well as entertainment.

Beijing Olympic Basketball Gymnasium in Wukesong Culture and Sports Center was for basketball. After the game, it becomes the center for the events of basketball, badminton, table tennis and large-scale art performance. Many pop music stars have held their concerts at here.

Beijing Shooting Range Hall in Beijing's Shijingshan District was for Shooting. After the game, it becomes the center for shooting training.

Laoshan Velodrome in Beijing's Shijingshan District was for Cycling. After the game, it becomes the training base of China national cycling team; also undertake large international and domestic events.

Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing's Shunyi District was for Rowing, Canoe/Kayak -- Flat-water, Canoe/Kayak -- Slalom, Marathon Swimming. After the game, the venue has been deserted but the area becomes a tourist attraction as well as sports event for golf and equestrian. In 2012, the Beijing Midi Music Festival was held at here.

China Agricultural University Gymnasium in the east Campus of the university was for Wrestling. After the game, it serves for the students in the university.

Peking University Gymnasium was for Table Tennis and after the game it serves for the students as well as large international or domestic sports events.

Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium was for Judo and Taekwondo and after 2008 it serves to host international sports event of this kind as well as for the students.

Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium was for Badminton and Rhythmic Gymnastics. After 2008, it serves for the students.

Beijing Olympic Green Tennis Court in Olympic Green was for Tennis and after the game it severs for the ITF tournaments.

Existing Venues

Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Southern part of Olympic Sports Center was for Modern Pentathlon (running and equestrian). Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Olympic Sports Center was for handball. Beijing Workers' Stadium in Gongti Rd, Chaoyang District was for football while boxing was held at Beijing Workers' Gymnasium.

Capital Indoor Stadium in Baishi Bridge, Haidian District was for Volleyball during 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Fengtai Sports Center Softball Field was for Softball. Yingdong Natatorium of National Olympic Sports Center was for Water Polo and Modern Pentathlon (swimming). Laoshan Mountain Bike Course in Shijingshan District was for Cycling (Mountain Bike).

Beijing Shooting Range CTF in Xiangshan nan Rd was the venue for shooting. Beijing Institute of Technology Gymnasium hosted the Volleyball while Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics Gymnasium held the game of Weightlifting.

Temporary Venues

Fencing Hall of National Convention Center witnessed the game for Fencing preliminaries and finals, and Modern Pentathlon (fencing and shooting). Hockey was held in Beijing Olympic Green Hockey Stadium while Archery held in Beijing Olympic Green Archery Field and Baseball held in Beijing Wukesong Sports Center Baseball Field. After 2008, the Baseball Field was demolished.

Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground in Chaoyang Park held the Beach Volleyball and Laoshan Bicycle Moto Cross (BMX) Venue in Laoshan, Shijingshan District served the Cycling (BMX). Triathlon Venue was at Ming Tomb Reservoir and Road Cycling Course was at TBD. After the game, venues for the BMX competition and beach volleyball have been deserted and unmaintained.

Non-Competition Venues

There are three Non-Competition Venues during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, namely Olympic Village, Olympic Media Village and Beijing Olympic Main Press Center.

Olympic Village is located in the Olympic Green in north Beijing. The village is composed of the international area, residential area and operations area. It houses about 16,000 athletes, coaches and their entourage from over 200 countries and regions.

Olympic Media Village in northern Beijing is the biggest media village in Olympic Games history, consist of two residential compounds namely North Star and Huiyuan. Beijing Olympic Main Press Center is also the biggest in Olympic history. It is located within the Olympic Green with easy reach to Bird's Nest, Water Cube, National Indoor Stadium, and the Olympic Fencing Hall, the Olympic Village, Media Village and other venues.
