Baotou Transportation

Baotou is the important transportation hub connecting north and northwest China with highway, rail and air. The airport operates scheduled flights to many of cities in China. Major rail lines connect the city with Beijing, Shanghai, Lanzhou, Xian and other cities. Public transportation is also well developed in the city.
 

 

Flag Fall CNY 6 1.2 / mile

There are more than 6,000 taxis in Baotou. The flag fall is CNY6 for the first 3 kilometers (about 1.9 miles) and thereafter CNY1.5 for each additional kilometer. Baotou Airport has taxis to the city center. It may cost CNY40.

Baotou Airport (BAV) is located in Donghe District; about 2.7 kilometers southwest of the East Railway Station, 23 kilometers (about 14 miles) from the city center (Kundulun District). It is one of the three airports in Inner Mongolia. It has flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Taiyuan, Guangzhou and Hohhot every day and four flights a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) to Chengdu and Shenyang.

Presently no shuttle bus or city bus connect the downtown and the airport. The only way of public transportation to the city are Taxis. Metered taxis charge CNY10 from the East Railway Station and CNY40 from the city center to the airport.

Long-distance Bus
 

There are two bus stations in Baotou for long distance travel. Both stations have schedules to many of the major cities in China. The Baotou-Hohhot Expressway was one of the earliest freeways built in this ethnic minority area of China. It only takes about 2 hours from Baotou to -Hohhot.

City Bus
 

There are forty-eight city bus liens servicing the districts and suburbs of Baotou City. Most of the them are conductorless buses and the ticket price is usually CNY1-2. In addition, there are some special tourist buses for visitors to choose.

Line 1 (double-deck bus):
Qiate (– Bayi Park – Baotou Hotel – Yinhe Square – TV Station –) Labor (Laodong) Park

Line 2:
Qiate – Nanhai Park (Nanhai Wetland Scenic Area)
Operating Hours: Holidays and weekends from May to October departing at 08:00 and returning at 16:00.

Minhang Community (– Qiate –) Kundulun Reservoir
Operating Hours: Holidays and weekends from May to October departing at 08:00 and returning at 16:00.
Price: CNY5-9

Line4:
Minzhu Lu (– Qingshan Park, Aerding Park –) Kundulun Reservoir
Operating Hours: Holidays and weekends from May to October departing at 08:00 and returning at 16:00

Baotou located where railways joints, Baotou is a terminus for both the Baolan Railway and the Jingbao Railway. So the train arriving Baotou is in a rapid frequency. Trains travelling to many major cities can easily be found at the two stations in the city.

They are Baotou Railway Station which is in Aerding Street of Kundulun District and Baotou East Railway Station located at Donghe District. The former is the joint of Beijing-Baotou Railway and Baotou-Lanzhou Railway, and the latter serves trains to Xi'an, Changsha, Chengdu, Datong, Taiyuan, Guangzhou,Hangzhou, Jinan, Jiayuguan, Lanzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Qinhuangdao, Shanghai, Shijazhuang, Tianjin and Zhengzhou. As the two railway stations are far away from each other, passengers usually make mistakes about them, so, be with special attention to testify which railway station you will go.
