As the second largest city in Shaanxi Province, Baoji covers an area of 18,172 square kilometers with a population of 3,670,000. Baoji is an important junction point for the line to Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan province.
History
Baoji was the birthplace of Zhou (11th century BC-221BC) and Qin (221BC-206) dynasties. It used to be called Chencang in ancient times. And the name Baoji can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty for a stone cock on a mountain crowed.
Attractions
As a birth land of Chinese civilization, Baoji boasts its bronze wares, historical sites as well as religious relics. The marvelous attractions include Famen Temple, Taibai Mountain National Forest Park, Zhouyuan Site, Zhougong Temple, Jiang Ziya Fishing Terrace, Yan Di Ling and Bronze Museum.
Famen Temple is the only one who owns the Buddha’s finger bone in the world. Taibai Mountain is the main peak of Qingling Mountains, which is the demarcating line of Northern and Southern China. Yan Di Ling is said to be the tomb of Yan Di, one of the first ancestors of the Chinese nation.

Baoji is considered the gateway between western and eastern China since most trains from Beijing, Shanghai and Xi'an pass through here on their way to Gansu, Sichuan, Xinjiang and Tibet (Lhasa).It is a hub of communication link southwest and northwest of China.
Baoji is only and 1.5 hours drive from Xi'an International Airport. The shuttle bus from Baoji to the airport will take you about 2 hours through Xibao highway. Within the city, the fare of a taxi is CNY5.
Climate
Baoji is the continental climate with a warm spring, hot summer, rainy autumn and dry winter. Since the average annual rainfall in Baoji is 710 mm, it is also called the Water Faucet of Center Shaanxi Plain.
