Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province, is situated 250 kilometers southwest of Beijing. Bordering the Taihang Mountains to the west, its three other sides face the vast and rich North China Plain. It is known for its flourishing textile industry. The city is still relatively small, with an area of 307 square kilometers and a population of just 1.6 million, but is still a major hub of the national railway network and is a fast-growing, prosperous city.
Scenic Spots
The city of Shijiazhuang not only contains several ancient as well as revolutionary-era historical sites, but also boasts of a diverse landscape of mountain forests, lakes and hot springs. In addition, there are plenty of great places to go shopping, city sightseeing and so on.
The city currently contains 18 state-level, 105 province-level and 240 municipality-level protected historical items. It has two national scenic spots (Cangyan Mountain, Zhangshiyan) and two provincial scenic spots (Fenglong Mountain, Tiangui Mountain). Moreover, it has one nationally famous historical city (Zhengding), one provincial famous historical city (Zhao county), one provincial vocational villages (Panlong Lake, Cangyan Mountain, Wentang, Zhangshiyan), one national forest park (Wuyuezhai), seven provincial forest parks (Xiantai Mountain, Tuoliang, Nansizhang, Chizhi, Longzhou Lake, Sibaipo, etc.), and six national and provincial patriotism education bases. Shijiazhuang is also the place where the "Hundred-Regiment Campaign" (1940) fought to victory in the War of Resistance against Japan.
