Sanya Seasons
Sanya has very warm weather all year around. The weather condition is very similar to Hawaii, as both places lay roughly on the same altitude.
We really only have two seasons here. In Summer our average daytime high temperature is 32 degrees centigrade; in Winter it is 25 degrees centigrade.
Rainy Months are July, August & September. So it may happen that for a week, it is sunny in the morning and rains cats and dogs in the afternoon, then sunny again.
A word of caution about the Sunshine: Use sunscreen and re-apply liberally all day long. Protect children with sun block containing zinc oxide or the latest 'in-sun suits' that protect from harmful rays. Hats and sunglasses are also a must.

Sanya History
Ancient Period
For a long time, Sanya was called "the end of the earth" because of its remote location at the southernmost tip of China. Historical figures such as Prime Minister Han Yuan, monk Jian Zhen, Prime Minister Zhao Ding, Minister Hu Quan and the legendary weaving and spinning expert Huang Daopo had all come to Sanya and made remarkable contributions to its economic and cultural development.
Modern Times
Yaxian County was taken over by People's Republic of China in April 1950. On September 26, 1987, it was promoted to Sanya City and officially took that name on December 30 of the same year.

Get In
Bus - Coaches running between Sanya and Haikou depart every 20 minutes during 7am to 11pm. Besides, 20 long-distance coaches are available for you to go to Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Jiangxi and other provinces everyday.
Air - The city is served by Sanya Phoenix International Airport (Sanya Fenghuang International Airport). It is 18km from downtown Sanya. Shuttle buses cost RMB15. Taxi costs around RMB 40 from airport to downtown.
Ship - Traditional way is taking a boat from Guangdong or Guangxi province to Haikou. Sanya International Wharf has come into use. A route: Hong Kong--Sanya--Vietnam Halong Bay--Hong Kong visits Sanya at Least 6 times a month.

Bus traffic in Sanya is very convenient. The main route is from Dadonghai to Civil Aviation Stop with different ticket fees in accordance with the destinations you are bound for.

What is the best time to visit Sanya?
Sanya is often referred to as the land of eternal spring; a place where flowers remain in bloom throughout the year. Here the tropical climate blends with the clear, fresh air to create a vacationers paradise, regardless of the season! The average temperature in Sanya is 25C (about 77F), with temperatures typically climaxing in June (when they often reach 95F). The warm weather remains throughout the winter months.

What are some festivals in Sanya?
Sanya hosts a range of festivals each year. Perhaps the most interesting of these festivals is the Tianya Haijiao International Wedding Festival. This festival, held on July 7th of traditional Chinese calendar, is a huge, collective wedding celebration. Couples from around the world come to Sanya for the festival eager to say their vows together in this elaborate ceremony.
The final round of the Miss World Competition was held in Sanya three times between 2003 and 2005. Additionally, the annual China's New Silk Road Model Look competition has been held in this beautiful city six times since 2001. It is reported that in 2006, 18 international events will be held successively in Sanya, including the Tianya Haijiao International Wedding Festival, China's New Silk Road Model Look, World's Strongest Man, Sanya International Concert, and TCL Classic Tournament 2005.
Given its natural beauty and comfortable climate, it is not surprising that Sanya has become an increasingly popular host city for a variety of international events.

Sanya is a tropical city, so you will have to deal with sun a lot. However, local brands really don't work, and western brands are really hard to find or unbelievably expensive when found.
