Yellow River Scenic Area Overview & Map Weather Transportation Information
Yellow River Scenic Area covers an area of about 27 square kilometer with Mt. Yueshan and Mt. Guangwushan as its center. About 20 years ago, there is still a wilderness.
In 1970, aiming to solve the problem of water supply and irrigation, a water project was launched by the government and was completed 2 years later. After that, another 7 years was spent in building a scenic area to enhance the culture of the Yellow River and during the Chu-Han War, Liubang and Xiangyu once confronted here.
With green trees, pavilions, winding rivers and pretty hills, it enjoys a fame of beautiful view. The Yellow River Scenic Area embraces five scenic spots, namely Five Dragons Peak, the Camel Mountain Range, the Yueshan Temple, the Stone Figures of Yandi and Huangdi, and the Ancient City of Liu Bang and Xiang Yu. Among them, the Five Dragons Peak is the central area. They are different in styles, but reveal the same tune of the Yellow River culture.
The Yellow River rushes out of the last gorge from here and into the plain areas and later turns into a river with its bed higher than the ground outside the banks. Therefore, watching the Yellow River here is very special. Pavilions of classic style scatter in an artistic way on mountain ridges of the Wulong Peak Scenic Area, the center of the Yellow River Scenic Area, which lies southward. At the foot of the Wulong Peak, a sculpture of an elegant lady holding a baby with kindness and peace, named "Nurturing", embodies that the Yellow River functions as the cradle of the Chinese civilization.
Yueshan Temple in the park is interesting. Among its offering, a large number of pagodas containing the remains a past monks at the temple. The park also contains its own Stele Forest where 570 steles inscribed by well known (to the Chinese at least) calligraphers.
Hovercrafts and speedboats are popular on the Yellow River at the park. The park is home to China's large fleet of tourist-use hovercrafts.
