What to admire
Xingping Town, situated between mountains and the Li River, is well known for its limpid water, grotesque peaks, steep cliffs, and fantastic landscape. The peaks here rise like so many needles, while the rivers are like ribbons. Peaks seem to be floating on the water and are dotted with cottages, fields, trees and bamboo groves. The Li River passes through the town with a length of 20 kilometers, in which Mural Hill, Snail Hill, Lotus Cave, and Fishing Village, are the most attractive spots along the entire Li River cruise. Moreover, the picture on the 20 yuan bill is also in the village.
Landmarks
Fishing Village
The old streets are paved in rocks, and the houses are made of stones with gray tiles; this is the Fish Village. It is an age-old complex survived from over 500 years ago. Although some courtyard buildings have weathered through ages, the simple but elegant flying-eaves, roofs with colorful paintings, lattice windows and unique timber structures present the folk residence from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The villagers have the same surname of Zhao, so it is rumored that they are descendents of the imperial family in the Song Dynasty. Both Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the pioneer of China's democratic revolution and US president Clinton paid a visit to the village on their visits to Li River.
Lotus Cave
It is famous for the 108 calcium carbonate stone lotus basins. In the world there are only two countries that have this kind of unique landscape, 8 lotus basins in Yugoslavia and 108 in Xingping, China. The Chinese geologist, Sun Daguang, once visited here and wrote "the Wonder in the World."
