Located in Xinglong within one hour and half driving from Sanya, Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden was built in 1957 covering an area of 400,000 sq. meters with 1200 tropical plants. It is nearly perfect for plants to grow; now the botanic garden does not only play the role of an important agricultural base, but also a famous tourism resort.

Something about "Xinglong"

Xinglong, located on Hainan's eastern coast, famous for its natural hot spring, tropical agriculture, rubber, coffee, pepper, and so on. Xinglong is the largest coffee production destination of China. It is the biggest agricultural base ran by overseas Chinese from South East Asia who moved to Xinglong in 1952 due to the bad relationship between Chinese and South East Asia courtiers including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines, etc.

Honors it has

It really deserves the name of "tropical plants encyclopedia" with more than 1200 kinds of plans growing inside. It is one of the four national eco-environment exemplary education centers and gene pools of species in China, and was recommended by the Chinese government as the World's Top 500 Environments to the UNESCO.

Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden is famous for the unique tropical plants. Tropical cash crops, trees and garden plants, wild plants, even rare species, and rare tropical plants introduced from abroad can be seen here. There are five major districts in the garden: Plants Area, Experiment and Demonstration Area, Technology Innovation Area, Stereo Effect Planting Area, and Ecological Leisure Area.

The botanic garden is near the green mountains and surrounded by lakes. So fresh air and ecology will refresh you and make you energetic again. In the botanic garden, visitors can admire the plants, fishing by lakes, do research and promote agricultural education. It aims to provide fun as well as practice for visitors.

Something to suggest

If you visit there, you must try the local coffee and tea, which are provided free of charge in the Garden. And you could buy some back home to your friends. Except the local coffee and tea, you must try the tropical fruit called "mystery fruit". You eat the fruit first, and then when you eat the sour orange or bitter food, the tastes will be getting sweet.

Getting there

Visitors can reach the scenic spot by motorcycle or sightseeing bus. Besides, make sure to return by the same means or it is not easy to find other transport vehicles.

    It is always summer in Hainan. Except from June to September when typhoon and heavy rain take place, other time you can have fun here.

    Around Spring Festival is peak season, when a great number of travelers come here, and therefore, everything charges a bit more than usual, so it is wise to avoid peak season to travel to Hainan.

    NOTE: Even though it is always warm in Hainan, if you come to swim here in winter, a sweater is still needed.


  • What to notice when eating seafood?

    1. When eating seafood, you should have some vinegar or Chinese alcohol, but not beer, because a lot of uric acid can be created together by beer and seafood, which is bad for you health.

    2. Do not have any cold drink, or watermelon, and do not swim right after having seafood.

    3. Seafood contains high protein, so if you are allergic to protein please stay away from seafood.

    1. It is not good that you eat too much fruit, for example mango and pineapple.

    2. Do not eat pineapple and carambola with an empty stomach, especial if you have diabetes, do not eat carambola, because it will put your life at risk.

    3. There are three kinds of coconuts, green coconut, yellow coconut and red coconut, among which red coconut is the best. Coconuts that are picked at noon are the sweetest, and if a drop of coconut juice fall on your clothes, the color of your clothes will change and it is very hard to wash it off.

    1. Do enough warm up exercise in case of cramp. Swim in the safe area, if you feel unwell in the water please get out of water immediately and rest on the beach. It is not suggest that you have cold drinks, watermelon or seafood right after swimming.

    2. Take care of your belongings. Expensive things should not be stored in a locker. It is best to ask someone you know to take care of it or check them at customer service.

    3. If you participate in high-speed motorboat, aeroboat, or high-speed ship, please follow the instruction by your coach or people who work there. Take care of your children, do not let them walk around alone.

    1. Follow your coach closely.

    2. Wear life jacket.

    3. Put on weight belt last.

    4. Do not use earplug.

    5. Make sure there is no water in your veil.

    6. Do not do any hyperventilation.

    7. Take off your swimming fin, veil and breathing pipe after you completely get out of water.



  • Packing essentials for traveling in Hainan

    Clothes: bring some clothes that can absorb sweat well, and also the kind that can dry fast. No need to bring a lot of clothes, because you can wash your clothes at night and they will dry in the next morning for sure.

    For health:

    • Bring sun-block that is SPF 40, and best waterproof.
    • Some medicine for loose bowel.
    • Some mosquitoes spray is necessary.


    Swimming has become a must for most travelers in Hainan, here is a list of what you should bring, in case you forget something: Swimming suits, hats, towels, slippers. Some hotels provide towels and slippers.

    1. Make sure you have everything: camera, battery, film, tapes, charger.

    2. Do not be economical on your films, or you will regret.
