Wangjiang Park Overview & Map Weather Transportation Information
Wangjiang means overlooking a river from a distance. The park is renowned because the famous poet, Xue Tao (768 - 831), once lived here. Luxuriant bamboos are planted here because they are the poetess' favorite. So, it is also the ideal place to appreciate bamboos in Chengdu City. If you are fortunate, you can see the Bamboo Culture Festival here.
Something about Xue Tao
Xue Tao (768 - 831), a female poet of the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), once lived here. It is said that the female poet once took the well water here, made poem labels and left moving poems.
She originally came from Chang'an and later moved to Chengdu with her father. After his death, she ran into financial difficulties and became a singer. However, she is best known for her poetic work, which was acknowledged and admired by her contemporaries. Most of her poems reflected her sadness and yearning towards a happy life.
Why so many bamboos
Xue Tao loved bamboo all her life. So people planted various bamboos in the garden. That is why the exuberance forest of bamboo first catches the eye of tourists.
Getting around
The Wangjiang Park encompasses an area of 120,000 square meters. Inside the park, the paths are hedged in by lush bamboos, while the river shore is lined with willows and fenced off by stone rails. The pavilions and halls mirrored in the gleaming river water set each other off.
Various bamboos
While entering the front door, what to come into view are exuberant bamboo groves, because Xue Tao loved the bamboo in her whole life, the posterity plants each kind of good bamboo in the park, among them having a few articles, such as the Rennian bamboo, the Mile bamboo, the square bamboo, the Guanyin bamboo, the chicken claw bamboo...etc.
Over 150 kinds of bamboos from home and abroad grow here in her honor. Among them don't lack the world delicacy, the tail of phoenix is dark, the dragon sing small and soft, verdant all the year round, the interesting aspect is endless, wander about unhurriedly in the interval, make person vulgar to read aloud to eliminate.
Wangjiang Tower
Built in 1889, the 39-meter-high Wangjiang Tower is the greatest building in the park. When the Wangjiang Tower, was built during the Guangxu Reign of the Qing Dynasty, it was known as Chongli Tower.
Of the four stories of the tower, the upper two are octagonal while the lower two are square with every eave layer exquisitely decorated with sculptures. It is exquisite and beautiful with vermilion columns, glazed tiles and gilt cupola. The tower stands by the side of Jinjiang River, hence the name of the Wangjiang Tower (Tower Overlooking the River). The Wangjiang Tower has been regarded as a landmark in Chengdu City.
Other memorial buildings
Other memorial buildings like Yinshi (poems-chanting) Building, Wuyunxian (five fairy clouds) Hall, Quanxiang (fragrance of spring) Pavilion, Pipa (loquat) Alley, Qingwan (refreshing and pretty) House, and Huanjian (paper-washing) Pavilion are elegantly arranged, built up in Ming and Qing Dynasty and featuring Sichuan-style gardens.

What about climate in Chengdu?
The climate of Chengdu is mild and humid with distinct four seasons and plenty of rainfall. It is a city with the early spring, hot summer, cool autumn and warm winter.
The annual average temperature is 16 degree Celsius. January is the coldest season when the average temperature is approximately 5 degrees Celsius. Snow is rare but there are a few periods of frost each winter. Summer is hot and humid. July is the hottest season when temperatures can be almost 35 degree Celsius.
