Village of Ethnic Culture Overview & Map Weather Transportation Information
Village of Ethnic Culture is at a narrow peninsular at the north shore of the Lake Dianchi. Ethnical villages of over 25 minorities including Yi, Dai, Miao, Jingpo, Wa, Hani, Naxi, Dulong and so on have been built here. Through ways of display and recreation of the original villages, Village of Ethnic Culture presents the diverse local ethnical culture. Villages of different styles are well arranged and show visitors their unique charm. Displaying the variety of buildings, lifestyles, religious belief in this region, the villages are microcosm of Yunan's colorful and diverse ethnical culture.
What to visit
Walking into the Village of Ethnic Culture, you will see that high steel framing door at first. That round sign of the flying gold peacock above the door symbolizes the meaning of multi-nationality's auspiciousness, happiness and prosperousness.
Dai ethnic minority
The first is the Dai ethnic minority. "Dai" means freedom. The people of Dai nationality all believe in Buddhism, distributing in Xishuang Banna and Dehong in Yunnan, China. According to their different customs, people divide them into Shui Dai, Han Dai and Huayao Dai. The condition of Shui Dai is displayed in the Ethnic Culture Village.
Bulang ethnic minority
Bulang ethnic minority has its unique reproduction worship and originality worship. In the Village of Ethnic Culture, the romantic and free marriage customs of Bulang ethnic minority are displayed. Three big oxen heads are hung above the door of Va ethnic minority, meaning rich and honor.
Va ethnic minority
In thought of the people of Va ethnic minority, the more oxen head, the more property. The Lahu ethnic minority has the longest history and they are good at hunting tigers. "Lahu" means roasting tiger meat with fire.
Naxi ethnic minority

Water Splashing Festival
The Water Splashing Festival is the New Year in Dai calendar. At this time, the young girls and fellows of Dai nationality in colorful costumes will spray the auspicious water on the guests' body in the happy sound of drum. Who is sprayed wettest through means that he is the happiest and luckiest!
Torch Festival
The Torch Festival is on 24th, June in lunar calendar and it is the grandest festival of Yi nationality. In the festival, people are bullfighting and tumbling in the day and it is very lively. At nightfall, the torch is flaming and the night sky becomes red. The youths are public merrymaking. All these show the burning and unrestrained character of Yi nationality fully. The whole nationality is very lively at this time.

Food
Food in Yunnan, as everywhere in China, is as varied as the local ingredients. The most famous cuisine is Cross-the-bridge noodles which are prepared at the table by adding raw ingredients into a hot broth. The ingredients in the soup are seemingly unlimited, except by what your palate can handle. These include an assortment of meat, mushrooms, tofu, eggs, cheese, potatoes, pumpkins, melons and green vegetables.
Souvenirs
Local specialties include embroidery, cloth (cotton and hemp) clothing and decorative pieces; ethnic minority handicrafts are available most places. There are also the standard silver rings, bracelets and necklaces, be sure to bargain. Besides pressed cakes of tea are a great gift to bring home.

Bai Ethnic Group
Of the 1,858,063 Bai people, 80 per cent live in concentrated communities in the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province, southwest China. The rest are scattered in Xichang and Bijie in neighboring Sichuan and Guizhou provinces respectively.

Is Kunming's weather like Spring all year round?
Kunming belongs to the subtropical plateau monsoon climatic zone; the annual average temperature is 14.7 and the yearly precipitation is 1,024 mm. It has the best climate of all Chinese cities, popularly known as the "Spring City". Kunming does not have severe winters or hot summers and the natural features of the four seasons are clearly defined. Is it safe to travel in Kunming?
