遵义会议旧址

The Site of the Zunyi Conference is located at No. 80, Hongqi Road, Zunyi City, Guizhou Province. Zunyi was the site of a pivotal meeting in 1935 during the famous Communist Party's Long March. In 1955, the Memorial of Zunyi Conference was built here. In 1964, Mao Zedong inscribed the name of the memorial. Listed as a major cultural relic site under state protection, the building now houses the Zunyi Conference Memorial Museum. The slogans written at the time have been preserved. The Long March was an epic journey undertaken by the Communist Party in order to transplant their base from southern China to Yan'an in the north.

The site is a two-storeyed wood-and-brick building built in the 1930s with Chinese and Western architectural styles. It was originally the private mansion of Bai Huizhang, a warlord and the Commander of the Second Division, No.25 Army of Qian (Guizhou Province) Army. There is a corridor on the first floor, and the floors have colonnades on all sides. The building is 25.75 meters wide, 16.95 meters deep, and 16.95 meters high, and covers an area of 528 square meters.

The meeting room of the conference is a rectangular hall on the second floor in the east, covering 27 square meters. In the west wall there are some windows, and two closets against the east wall with a clock hanging on it. In the middle of the hall there is a rectangular table surrounded by a circle of foldable chairs. In the building there are the former residences and offices of Zhou Enlai, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Committee, Zhu De, Commander in Chief of the Red Army, Liu Bocheng, General Chief of Staff, Ye Jianying, Chief of Staff, Peng Dehuai, Commander of the Third Corps, and Yang Shangkun, the Comissar, etc.

The Zunyi Meeting was an enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau (Politburo) of the CPC Central Committee held in January 1935. It focused on discussing and rectifying the errors in military affairs. Prior losses sustained at the start of the Long March were attributed to the poor leadership of Wang Ming. In this desperate moment, Mao Zedong advocated that the Red Army should change its original operations and march towards Guizhou Province then held by weakened Kuomintang forces.

The Zunyi Meeting ended the domination of Wang Ming's "left adventurism" in the CPC Central Committee, and replaced with the leadership of Mao Zedong, thus saving the Red Army and the Party from destruction at a most critical juncture. Mao's proposal of a peasant-led rather than an urban-based revolution first became widely known at the Meeting. It was also the first time that the Communist Party of China applied independently the basic principles of Marxism-Leninism to the settlement of its own line and policy. It was vital turning point in the history of the Party.

Zunyi Conference is an important event in the history of the Communist Party of China. It saved the party, the Red Army and the revolution. It is a vital turning point in the history.

  • Are there any travel tips about weather?

Whether for escaping from summer heat or winter cold, Guiyang is definitely a good destination.

However, due to the changeable weather on the Yungui Plateau where Guizhou is located, it is recommended that you take rain wear along with you and a folding umbrella is an asset! In addition, temperatures in the morning and the evening can often be rather low, so a windproof coat is necessary. The strong radiation from the sun means that you will also need our sun glasses and a sun hat - and don't forget your suntan lotion!

  • What good souvenirs can I buy there?

Some special local products like traditional art works, or local food are decent gifts for you friends and relatives.

  • Travel tips for you to Huangsuoshu Waterfall on best time

July and August is the best time to visit Huangguoshu Waterfall. During this period of time, there is a rich amount of water, making magnificent scenery. You can not appreciate such scenes during the lack-of-water period. An umbrella is suggested when you go to the waterfall, due to the giant size of the waterfall, you will be soaked wet without it.

  • What are some interesting festivals in Guiyang?

Liu Yue Liu literarily means a date, June 6. Actually it is a festival held on the sixth day of the sixth Chinese lunar month, hence the name. This festival is an important day for Buyi people to worship the cook's god and the mountain god.

Si Yue Ba is held annually on the eighth day of the lunar month. On this day, large numbers of Miao people put on their beautiful costumes and congregate in the center area of Guiyang City to celebrate this great festival by playing the Lusheng and flute, singing antiphonal songs and dancing.

Di Xi is a form of local drama. It is held on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month at Huaxi by Buyi People and other minority groups. The performers put on masks and costumes and engage in dancing and singing. Generally the performance tells a story of a battle or the loyalty between friends of ancient times

  • Does Guizhou have a lot of ethnic groups there?

Guizhou is a multi-region province. Apart from Han, there are about 17 other ethic groups that live here, such as Miao, Buyi, Dong, Yi, Shui, Hui, Zhuang, Yao, Man, Bai, Mongolia, Qiang and Tu.

We suggest that you 'do as the romans do' when you go to visit Guizhou, because there are a lot of customs and taboos in the ethnic groups. Also respect their tradition to avoid conflict.

  • Some customs about the Miaos

The Miaos usually keep open doors and are fond of drinking. Most of them can make home-made alcohol. Shaojiu is the most common alcohol. During a meal, the host might want his guest to drink some alcohol, if they refuse to drink, the host will not be happy. If you really can't drink, then please tell the host before the meal starts.

  • Some warnings about hotels
