Shanghai Wild Animal Park is located in XuanQiaoTown of Nanhui District in Pudong New Area, and about 35km from Shanghai downtown and coving an area of 153 hectares (2300Mu). 300 millions Yuan was invested in this park and this park was opened to the public on Nov. 18, 1995.

Why to come

SWAP (Shanghai Wild Animal Park) is one of the first AAAAA national visiting spots. It is the first national wild animal park established by Shanghai Municipal Government and State Forestry Administration.

More than 200 kinds representative and rare animals form the world were collected in SWAP, and the number of animal is about 10,000, such as the South China tigers, lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, camels, bears, elephants, hippos, and flamingos have more legroom here than in the Shanghai Zoo, at the same time such as national prior protected giant panda, snub-nosed monkey, Chinese tiger.

Getting around

The park is one of China's biggest wild animal parks and covers an area of 153 hectares. There are over 200 rare species and over 10,000 animals from all over the world, including giraffe, zebra, white rhinoceros and hunting leopards. Some indigenous animals under special protection include giant pandas, golden monkeys, south-china tigers, and Asian elephants and many others.

There are two exhibit areas in the zoo: bus tour area and walking area. There are herbivore zone, free zone, aquatic bird's lake, birds' zone, animal kindergarten, pet monkey's park, rare animal's park, animal performance zone, sea lion performances zone and other spots in the Park.

Bus tour area

Entering the bus tour area, visitors will get an up-close-and-personal look at the wild animals of Asia and Africa. Giraffes stretching others' necks over the bus; sun bathing lion; African elephant, greeting at the tourists; leopard, hunting for foods; north China tiger come up close. Do not forget to bring your camera, this is a great opportunities to take some amazing pictures.

Walking area

In the walking area, visitors can get close to many gentle animals, such as Australian kangaroos, Asian deer's, African ring-tailed lemurs, and yellow and blue parrots from South America. You can even take pictures together with rare and wild animals, such as lions, tigers, bears, leopards, and elephants.

Animal kindergarten

In the animal kindergarten, there are lovely small animals for visitors a hold. Visitors can also enjoy the exciting shows at the Wildlife Zoo, look at many fascinating animals performed comedy, and demonstrate behaviors that feature their strength, intelligence and versatility.

The policy of Shanghai Wild Animal Park represents the spirit of "safari's experience and the enjoyment of being with the animals", which enables visitors to feel the wild experience and closeness with the animals.

By bus

Wanye Route: Shanghai Stadium (93 Caoxi Road, the same stop as Bus 42).

Nanxin Route: Shanghai Railway Station (South Square, near Longmen Hotel).

By subway

Take the train to the end of Metro line 2, and then get the Zhangnan route bus to Shanghai Wild Animal Park.

    The four seasons are easy to tell apart. The weather is pleasant, and the number of all kinds of products is large in Spring and Autumn.

    Every June and July is the mold rain season, so it is usually humid in hotel rooms. Umbrella is a necessary thing to bring with during the rainy weather.

    The coldest time is from late January to early February. Even though there is not much snow, warm clothes are still needed, because cold wind is always unendurable. Hotel rooms are equipped with air-conditions, so please stay warm in the room.

    It is usually super hot in July and August. Weather with higher than 35 C usually stays for about ten days, so that prevention from overheat is very necessary.
