Housed in an old colonial villa, this spacious living room has been converted into one of Shanghai's best jazz and live music venues. Li Dongfu opened this bar in 2001. The stage is small but maintains a talented house band. Local and visiting musicians regularly stop by to sit in for a set and the talent frequently changes. Sturdy oak furnishing and a large, curving bar create the ideal atmosphere for sampling Shanghai's growing jazz scene. Soft, warm tones and sultry tunes float through the eclectic atmosphere and Li has been known to give noisemakers to audience members before pulling them up on stage. House of Jazz and Bluse is truly a place to shine.

Face

Set amongst the idyllic garden of the Ruijin Gesthouse, Face combines sophisticated cool with ancient Chinese mystique. The terrace comes complete with opium beds upon which to sip your cocktails while heads of Buddha and old stone statues gaze at you from the bar. Face has opened a branch in London. Long praised for having one of Shanghai's best happy hours and for knowing how to pour a good drink, Face attracts a wide variety of revelers both Chinese and foreign. In the summer, the gardens become a place for dancing and socializing while several fireplaces keep the winter warm. People often meet here for drinks after work and the pool table beside the bar is rarely emplty.

    The four seasons are easy to tell apart. The weather is pleasant, and the number of all kinds of products is large in Spring and Autumn.
