According to the different scenes, the Li River can be divided into three main sections.

Guilin to Ox Gorge

The pictures gallery, along the banks of the Li River, at this point includes the forest of fantastic peaks, towns, dispersed cottages and fields. The main attractions along the banks of the Li River in the first section include the Elephant Hill, the rooster fighting hill, the Clear-Vase Hill, the Forest of odd peaks, Father and son cave, Longmen village, the Dayan town and the Millstone Hill.

Ox Gorge to Water-Dropping Village

This section of the Li River includes a variety of mountain ranges and many weird shaped peaks, which make for a great tourist attraction. The major tourist attractions in this section include the Wang Fu Rock, Caoping Village, Crown Cave, One-side Ferry; a boy worships Buddha, Wave-stone scenery, eight fairies crossing the River, the Mural Hill, Reflection of the Yellow cloth and the Xingping town.

Water-Dropping Village to Yangshuo

In this third section, the Li River offers green bamboos, bending willows, crop fields, cottages and fishing villages. This part of the river is also known for its green hills, clear water, fantastic caves and stunning rocks.

The Li River is famous for its beauty of four unique: verdant mountains, fragrant waters, mysterious grottoes, and exquisite rocks. Along the river, there are deep pools, dangerous shoals, murmuring springs, and roaring waterfalls. Going downstream in a tourist boat, one can enjoy spectacular views of crowded towering peaks along the riverbanks, waterfalls suspending over forests of rocks, and their crashing sprays upon jutting rocks. What one marvels at most is the Picture Cliff. It's endowed by nature's uncanny workmanship, with a smooth flat surface. Seen from a distant boat, due to the interplay of various shades of brilliant colors upon it, the surface looked as if painted with a picture of faintly discernible 9 horses. On the crest of the peak, poised a colossal "steed", rearing its head and neighing, while by its side two "Colts" were grazing. One can see "The Avant-garde Horse" on the summit of Yuwei Peak and "The Horse Falling Behind" on Mahuang Mountain.

The Li River brimming with crystal-clear waters twists and turns between magnificent and beautiful mountains. Its banks are covered with lush bamboo and luxuriantly green woods. Luohan Mountain, Chaoban Mountain, Wuzhi Mountain and Luosi Mountain rise up from under the waters. All these present splendid scenery.

Along the River there are many peaks and scenic spots deserve tourists to have a look. They are: Elephant Trunk Hill, Pagoda Hill, Daxu Town, Crown Cave (Guanyan), Xingping, Yangshuo, Yangdi Village and Yellow Cloth Shoal etc.

The rainy season begins from April in Guilin City, so please carry rain gear with you. The average temperature for the year is 19.3 centigrade with a July average temperature of 28.3 degrees. The average rainfall for the year is 192.6 cm per month.
