It is an old village with a history of two thousand years. The Tujia special buildings are scattered and the streets are covered by stone slabs. "Xizhou Copper Pillar" set as a war covenant made between the emperor of Chu, Maxifan and the King of headman in the Warring States Period, remains as before. There is also a large stone archway, over 100 years old, built to commemorate the virtue of a young woman.

Role in history

Ancient Wangcun Town is the site of former Youyang City in Qin and Han Dynasties. It is the door of Mengdong River waterway tour and the south gate of Mengdong River scenic spot.

How it got the name

Wangcun is famous, as it is also the place for the shooting of famous film "Furong Town." The specialty of the scenery attracts artists, all the exterior sceneries of the film "Furong Town" is taken from here. Furong Town becomes famous, and Wangchun followed the film and is known to many people now.

Convenient transportation

Furong Town is the only road to Mengdong River. Here, the railway, highway, and waterway transportation is convenient. Arriving at Mengdong River railway station by taking a special train for tourism at Zhangjiajie, you will find that Furong Town is nearby. The specific train schedule may be looked up at Mengdong River communication timetable.

Getting around

You are certain to find lots of fun, in Furong Town, an ancient town with a long history and most of the people here are the Tujia ethnic group, cultural relics and things of Tujia flavor.

Special buildings

Wangcun is in the north bank of the west water, the Tujia special buildings are scattered along the mountainside, overlapped if you see from far, and it goes to the half way of the mountain, and formed a 2.5 kilometers of Long Street. The streets are covered by stone slabs, and the ages washed them to leave a cold shining surface.

The scenery in the town has unique bearing. Shops with trap doors are on the both sides of five-mile street of black flagstone. Tujia Diaojiaolou is set up against the slope. The simple bearing of Tujiazu is very charming.

"Xizhou Copper Pillar"

In the Warring States Period, "Xizhou Copper Pillar" set as a war covenant made between the emperor of Chu, Maxifan and the King of headman remains as before. On "Xizhou Copper Pillar," key cultural relic under state protection, more than 2300 characters are inscribed, the covenant of dismissing troops and reconciling made between the emperor of Chu, Maxifan and the King of headman in 940 A.D. is recorded. It is a precious object data of studying nation relation in ancient China.

Wangcun waterfall

Besides, there is Wangcun waterfall which is about 60 meters high and 70 meters wide here. Walking behind the hanging screen of the waterfall is like placing oneself in a crystal palace.

  It's necessary for you to know something about your destination such as weather, the good time to travel there.

  Zhangjiajie is subtropical moist mountain climate, so the temperature is mild, rainfall is abundant, and frost period is short, the annual average temperature is 16C. Zhangjiajie is attractive all year round.

  In spring, all the flowers on mountains blossom, it is really a good time to do some hiking. In summer the forests flourish and are strongly fragrant, Zhangjiajie becomes a perfect place to spend summer. Autumn is a romantic season with the painting-like scenery, tourists have a lot to do here, like tasting fruit, hiking mountain. Winter provides tourists amazing scenery with snowy landscape, very suitable to admire plum blossoms in the snow.

• What to pack for a trip to Zhangjiajie?

  • It rains a lot here, so bring umbrella or buy disposable raincoat, and wear comfortable clothes, light sports shoes if you plan to do hiking.

  • Also, don't forget to bring more clothes to keep warm in case of cold weather.

  • You'd better bring less carry-on baggage, but the things like sunscreen, medicine for insects' biting, cooling ointment should be included.
