Situated about 3 kilometers southeast of downtown Sanya, Dadonghai possesses a crescent-shaped tropical beach 2.3 kilometers long, and is one of Sanya's cleanest beaches. As Dadong Sea is a vacation and leisure area, more and more tourists come to the place for holidays and sightseeing.

3km south-east from Sanya (10 minutes by minibus, or less than 1 hour by foot,) Dadonghai is a not big, but bustling and appealing seaside resort. It has pleasant spring-like weather all year round. The water temperature is about 20C (68F) even in winter. There's a western-style cocktail bar with blues music here. It has developed into a multi-functional tourist place with good facilities for sightseeing, vacations, and leisure tours.

In this area there are many attractive tourist facilities, such as high or middle class hotels, guest houses, holiday resorts, and the national diving training base, sea bathing sites, fresh-water swimming pools, and water paradise, singing and dancing halls, tennis courts, gyms, and more.

There's a western-style cocktail bar with blues music here. Isn't fun that swimming in the one of the clear warm water in Asia, or dive for sightseeing the beautiful coral and other interesting ocean? Don't be afraid of diving if you never did before, because a professional diver will accompany with you under the water. And it's very pleased to lie down under an umbrella to relax, with the tropical atmosphere. As you wish, many water-games can be played on this soft and sunny beach. If you're hungry after all this fun, you can choose a seafood restaurant by the sides of the streets just near the beach, and taste the day's catch which you pick from the fishermen's nets.

Driving and sea bathing

Dadonghai is perfect place of diving, beach sports, bathing and sunbathing. It is scattered with a large shopping square, amusement companies and a famous dive company that can provide scuba diving, ship diving, seabed strolling, speed boat, motorboat, luxury yacht, sail boat, ocean fishing, beach sports and underwater photography. There are numerous small restaurants and bars serving up tasty snacks and drinks.

There are several shopping areas. The largest shopping center is the Sanya-Ruihai Shopping Park, then Dadonghai Pearl Square, Tropical Rain Forest Square, Seashore Lovers Road and Seafood Barbecue Square, are all able to offer leisure for tourists. 300 meters east along the beach is Seashore Park.

  1. Bus or taxi from Sanya Phoenix International Airport directly to Dadonghai
  2. Taxi or bus No.2 or No. 4 from Sanya downtown area to Dadonghai
  3. Sightseeing bus (10 minutes once) special for tour line (7:15a.m. - 7:00p.m.) to Dadonghai

  • What is the best time to visit Sanya?

    Sanya is often referred to as the land of eternal spring; a place where flowers remain in bloom throughout the year. Here the tropical climate blends with the clear, fresh air to create a vacationers paradise, regardless of the season! The average temperature in Sanya is 25C (about 77F), with temperatures typically climaxing in June (when they often reach 95F). The warm weather remains throughout the winter months.


  • What are some festivals in Sanya?

    Sanya hosts a range of festivals each year. Perhaps the most interesting of these festivals is the Tianya Haijiao International Wedding Festival. This festival, held on July 7th of traditional Chinese calendar, is a huge, collective wedding celebration. Couples from around the world come to Sanya for the festival eager to say their vows together in this elaborate ceremony.

    The final round of the Miss World Competition was held in Sanya three times between 2003 and 2005. Additionally, the annual China's New Silk Road Model Look competition has been held in this beautiful city six times since 2001. It is reported that in 2006, 18 international events will be held successively in Sanya, including the Tianya Haijiao International Wedding Festival, China's New Silk Road Model Look, World's Strongest Man, Sanya International Concert, and TCL Classic Tournament 2005.

    Given its natural beauty and comfortable climate, it is not surprising that Sanya has become an increasingly popular host city for a variety of international events.

    Sanya is a tropical city, so you will have to deal with sun a lot. However, local brands really don't work, and western brands are really hard to find or unbelievably expensive when found.
