Crown Cave, located in Caoping Village, 29km south of Guilin city, is one of the most famous tourist spots of Guilin. It stands on the bank of the charming Li River for hundreds of years and has attracted countless poets, scholars and nobles.

The origin of its vivid names

The cave gets its name because it nestles beneath a hill resembling a gold crown of ancient emperor. Due to the sweet and clear spring water running out from the cave; it is also called Sweet Cave. And it is named Light Cave because there is a gleam of light from the ceiling of the pitch-dark cave.

What to visit

There is a deep underground river passes through the cave and then joins the Li River. The cave stretches about 12km (7.5 miles). The 3km (nearly 1.9 miles) near the Li River has been developed and opened to the public. The cave has been set with modern sightseeing facilities, including an elevator, light rail, small boats and sightseeing roller coaster.

• The fantastic rock formation
  First you can reach the mountainside by light rail and descend into the cave by elevator. There are altogether five caves. The stalactites, stalagmites and stone pillars inside will capture your imagination and make you want to linger.
• Palm Hall
  Then you can take the light rail to Palm Hall. The tallest palm-like stone pillar among the four in the hall is taller than 50 meters, reaching the ceiling of the cave. The "palm tree" is so thick that it takes several people to put their arms around it. It is really a wonder. You will marvel at the magical power of nature.
• Other karst landscapes
  Then you can take a small boat to experience the distinctive views of the underground river. Many other karst landscapes are waiting for you after you go ashore from the boat. Stalagmites abound inside the cave making grotesque and imposing shapes illuminated by lights glittering a golden glow that lead people into a fairyland.

Other joyful things worth visiting

Besides Crown Cave, the peach and plum garden, folk craftwork shops, cottages and farmhouse and elephant show in the scenic area are all worth visiting and add interest to your trip of Guilin.

The rainy season begins from April in Guilin City, so please carry rain gear with you. The average temperature for the year is 19.3 centigrade with a July average temperature of 28.3 degrees. The average rainfall for the year is 192.6 cm per month.
