The Botanical Garden occupies 210 hectares and is located in the eastern suburbs of Shenyang, Liaoning Province, about 10km from the municipal center. The garden has over 1,000 kinds of ornamental plants and 8 special gardens such as the azalea garden. It's the only place that has such trees as Korean Pine. Come here, the charming natural scenery also impresses you a lot!

Southern & Northern Parts of the garden

From a macroscopic angle, the whole garden is divided into two parts by the Fushun Railway. The southern part mainly contains 20 small gardens, the Cuihu Lake, and the Xing-Xing Paradise, while the northern part includes the Steam Locomotive Museum, hotels and the area for growing plants.

Those 20 small gardens reflect different themes, including "Peony Garden," "Lilac Garden," "Azalea Garden," and "Rose Garden." Surrounded by so many flowers, you will be delighted by their pleasant fragrances causing you to feel quite refreshed.

In the south of the Botanical Garden, the Cuihu Lake is well worth visiting. Its surface is broad, peaceful and green, just like a gigantic emerald. By the side of the Cuihu Lake, there is a peak which offers a challenge to climbers, and is a place where visitors can show their skills and strength.

Why do visit

Opened in 1959, this exceptionally green patch of land rates as one of Shenyang's showcases attractions. More than 1,000 species of flowers, trees, and shrubs grace the grounds, meshing perfectly with the ponds and ornate bridges that dot the landscape.

There are eight gardens in all, with one completely devoted to azaleas, creating a visual spectacle of color when in bloom. Paradoxically, the garden also shares space with the Shenyang Steam Exhibition Hall. In addition the Botanical Garden is host to annual large scale flower exhibitions.

The garden has also set up more than 30 amusement bridges such as the simple and unsophisticated Feidu Bridge. The distinctive rocks, the Xing-Xing Paradise and other amusement facilities make Shenyang Botanical Garden a favorite scenic spot of Shenyang citizens.

Enchanting scenery

The natural environment of the entire Botanical Garden has been carefully nurtured to enhance the best attributes of nature. Walking paths cross over various water ways, rock formations are highlighted for viewing pleasure, and a special children's paradise is open for family enjoyment. Flowers, trees, and shrubs grace the grounds, meshing perfectly with the ponds and ornate bridges that dot the landscape.

In this Botanical Garden, you are going to find undulating hills, a lake rippled by breezes, evergreen pine trees and beautiful flowers. In addition to all of this, you can also enjoy flowing waterfalls and elegant pavilions.

Flower exhibitions

The Botanical Garden has flower exhibitions according to different seasons, tulip exhibition in May, peony exhibition in June, lily exhibition in July, dahlia exhibition in August and grand-cover chrysanthemum in September, which draw a lot of people's attention and are loved by them. The 50 iron chain bridges over the takes and the exciting rock climbing become the items the domestic and foreign visitors love.

Entertainment

The Xing-Xing Paradise is intended for children and here, there are many different kinds of cartoon models, which the kids find very interesting and absorbing. The chain bridges over the lake also attract thousands of visitors. There are about 50 chain bridges and every bridge has its own style. Currently, a popular activity is, crossing the chain bridge. Additionally, you can see many rare wild animals in the zoo area and, in a word, there is a positive delight for every visitor.

    Late summer, middle autumn and late winter are all good times to travel in Shenyang. Winter is an especially good time to visit because the Ice Snow Festival is held then and is very entertaining and enjoyable.

    The lowest temperature of Shenyang is -28.5 C and the highest is 36.1 C. July is the hottest month of the year with an average temperature of 24.7 C. It is much cooler than almost all the cities in southern China.

    The seasons of spring and summer are decorated with green plants; autumn is short but is so sunny nearly everyday; winter is like a pretty girl with long and beautiful white skirt.

    Shenyang West Lake is located in Xinmin City, about 48 kilometers (about 29.8 miles) away from Shenyang City. From every 25th, July to 10th, August, a splendid lotus festival is held. Thousands of tourists will come to Shenyang West Lake to enjoy the fantastic beauty.

    Strange Slope Pagoda Tree Flower Festival
    There are about 25 acres of pagoda trees around Shenyang Strange Slope Scenic Area. In every late May flowers will be blooming in a spirit of competition. It is really a good time and place for you to relax.
