滨海路 奇景叠出,美不胜收

If you come to Dalian by plane, when your plane flies over the city, look down and you may find what looks like a dancing silk ribbon inlaid between the southern mountains and sea - it's the Binhai Road, otherwise known as the "Coastal Road." It offers a delightful sightseeing route and is one of the must see attractions of Dalian City.

What to visit

The 35-kilometer-long road borders Xinghai Square in the west and Donghai Park in the east. It is the best route for hiking and going for driving in the city.

Mountain and cliffs

Originally as a military defense road built in the 1970s, Binhai Road is now a national scenic area with imposing mountain scenery on one side and ragged cliffs and seaside on the other. On the mountain side grow thriving trees, flourishing flowers, and on the other the steep and rugged cliffs quicken one's health and a vast expanse of calm, blue, or misty, rolling water delights one's eyes. The air of the region is so fresh that tourists coming here apply the name of "natural oxygen bar" to it spontaneously.

Attractions

Binhai Road follows the coastline of Dalian from the east via the south part and on to the west. Driving along the road, tourists will find a dozen attractions, like a string of pearls scattered along it including Bangchui Island scenic area, Laohutan Ocean Park, Yanwoling (Swallow Nest Mountain), Fujiazhuang Beach and Yuexiu Villa. The southern section starting is the most popular part.

Bangchui Island

Bangchui Island is known for its beautiful pebbly beach and comfortable swimming bay. The scenic area is located at the eastern end of Binhai Road. It consists of Bangchui Island, the natural lido and Bangchuidao Hotel. It is a famous seashore resort combining marvelous scenery of hills, sea, islet and beach. It features the golf course, the tennis hall, the health center and so on.

Laohutan Ocean Park

In the park, many attractive natural sceneries and magnificent man-made sights can be seen, especially the Tigers Sculpture Square and Laohutan Polar Region Marine Animals World. As a modern ocean park, Laohutan Ocean Park is one specializing in tourism, recreation, shopping and so on and is regarded as the Dalian people's favorite park.

Fujiazhuang Beach

Fujiazhuang Beach is renowned for its spectacular 550-meter-long stretch of golden sands and the turquoise sea and situated near the beach are many reefs, islands and forests, which make Fujiazhuang Beach even more attractive.

What to taste

Seafood dominates Dalian's local cuisine. There is a bewildering profusion of saltwater fish, as well as fresh shrimp, lobster, crabs, scallops, squid, abalone, and much more. An interesting local sea favorite is the sea slug or the very slug-like sea cucumber; to most Western palates these foods are about as appealing as they sound. Seafood price are good and the quality is unparalleled.

Dalian's food is very much in the northeastern mode: hearty meal featuring strong flavors, wheat noodles, cabbage, potatoes, and dumplings.

Dalian is also famous for fresh fruit - the surrounding areas produce peaches, strawberries and apples.

Souvenirs

Sculptures and other works utilizing local seashells abound in this seaside town. "Cuiyan douhua" is a kind of drawing made from colorful beans. Subjects include folklore legends and modern landscapes. One popular subject is the "Eight Immortals Crossing the Ocean," is a well-know legend of the eight Taoist Immortals. Shells with intricate carvings on them are available at reasonable price.
